Shiitake is an edible mushroom native to East Asia that grows naturally on decaying hardwood trees. However, it has also long been used in Chinese medicine where the mushrooms are prized for their health properties, which include supporting longevity. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Shiitake is helpful for tonifying the ‘Qi‘ energy and the blood. In Japan various extracts from Shiitake mushroom have been patented for use in treatments for cancer, immune system dysfunction and cholesterol control. Our mushrooms are cultivated on select organic farms and grown on organic brown rice for two months to obtain a higher yield of active compounds. Then we harvest the full spectrum biomass and young fruiting bodies, with additional hot water-extracted mature fruiting body.
